A CONCERNED Friockheim resident has branded an attack on a local park a result of a lack of “pride”.
The villager, who declined to be named for fear of reprisals by the vandals, hit out at the trashing of the Friockheim Millennium Garden by stunt cyclists.
She said: “The Millenium Garden, built with local money and lottery funding has experienced its first real problems with vandals.
“Over the last two weeks the gates were removed from the tennis courts and used for bike owners to ride up and over the picnic tables in the garden.
“Over the last two days they have completely wrecked one of the picnic tables.
“It is sad that the garden and children’s play area have stood untouched for 12 years. Where is the local pride?”
Arbroath East and Lunan councillor Donald Morrison expressed his disappointment at the vandalism.
He said: “While we don’t mind youngsters enjoying themselves, we also don’t want mindless vandalism of equipment which the community has raised money for the Millenium Garden.
“It’s a shame that this has occurred and if anyone is aware of who carried this out they need to inform the police.
“This will cost the community and Angus Council money to put back together. I will take this matter up with Angus Council.”
